Implant overdentures will resolve the problems you describe with your denture. But dental insurance may offer limited coverage, if any.
Will Dental Insurance Cover Implant Overdentures?
In most cases, dental insurance will not cover implant overdentures. However, we will give you several things to consider when planning for overdentures and budgeting for the cost.
- Most plans don’t cover implants – Instead, they offer some coverage toward less expensive options like dentures, a dental bridge, or a partial denture. If your dental insurance company provides any coverage toward implant dentures, it will not be much.
- Pre-existing conditions – Dental insurance plans that offer dental implant coverage often have a pre-existing condition clause. “Missing teeth” is usually listed as a pre-existing condition. So if you already wear dentures, you will not be eligible for coverage toward dental implants.
- Maximum benefits – If you find a plan that provides coverage for dental implants, you will likely have a yearly or lifetime maximum benefit allowance. And you can quickly reach the maximum.
- Cost of implant dentures – Your cost for implant overdentures is affected by several factors, including:
- Implant type
- Number of implants you receive
- If you need bone grafting
- Surgery costs
- Cost of denture
- Other fees
- You can expect to pay $6000 to $10,000 for snap-on dentures and about $30,000 or more for a procedure like All-on-4 dental implants.
- Financing – Most dental offices offer low-interest financing to help you pay for implant overdentures.
